Is ReferenceFlow affiliated with NCEES® or Pearson VUE?
No. ReferenceFlow is an independent practice tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by NCEES or Pearson VUE. We recreate the look and feel of the testing-center viewer for practice purposes only.
Where is my PDF stored?
On your machine, exclusively. ReferenceFlow uses IndexedDB to store your handbook locally in your browser's private storage. Your study materials never touch our servers — there is no upload step and no copy of your PDF anywhere but your own device. If your employer has its own data-handling policy, this is usually the easiest kind of tool to clear, but check with them rather than taking our word for it.
Do you provide the NCEES Reference Handbooks?
No. To respect copyright, we do not provide the handbooks. You bring your own PDF — typically the one downloaded from your MyNCEES account. ReferenceFlow acts as the "shell" that provides the authentic exam interface for your document.
How does "Exam Mode" work?
This mode splits your screen into two independent viewers. You can load your handbook on the left and a practice exam PDF on the right. Each pane has its own navigation controls, allowing you to simulate the exact physical layout of the testing center workstations.
Will this work on my work laptop?
In most cases, yes. ReferenceFlow runs entirely in the browser with nothing to install — no .exe, no admin rights, no plugin. If you have a modern browser and your network allows referenceflow.app, you can study at the office or at home. Locked-down networks vary, so if your workplace filters sites you may need to check with your IT team.
Can I expense this purchase to my company?
Many engineering firms let you put exam prep tools against a professional development budget. Stripe emails an itemized payment receipt to the address you check out with, which is what most expense systems ask for. If you need an invoice in a particular format or made out to your employer, email us and we'll sort it out.
Is this really a one-time payment?
Yes. One payment of $29 gives you lifetime access. No subscriptions, no "maintenance fees," and no limits on how many exams you use it for. Whether you're taking the FE today or the PE three years from now, your access remains active.
